What is open-cell foam?

Open-cell foam is made by introducing variations in the blowing agent when making polyurethane. Reactions cause pockets of gas to expand and ‘open’. Even if only half of a foam’s pores are open, it’s still classed as open-cell foam to distinguish it from the tough, impervious, more expensive closed-cell foam.


Flexible Cellular Polymeric Materials Polyurethane Foam for Load Bearing Applications

is applicable to flexible polyurethane cellular materials produced in block, sheet and strip form, molded and fabricated shapes, and restructured material, generally used for load bearing applications, but excluding carpet backing and underlayment.


The average cell size of Cellular Urethane Foam is approximately 100 microns.

There is a fine pitch open cell urethane foam produced by pufeng.  The uniform, microcellular structure allows PUFENG Urethane Foamto be easily compressed for dust seals and cushions.  Water sealing with PUFENG Urethane Foam is possible in applications with proper compression and moderate water exposure.
